Legal, but readable

Terms of use

Last updated 18 October 2026

The short version: Dear Delusion is comedy, not therapy. It's free to use right now. Be nice, don't copy the whole thing, and remember that notifications can sometimes be late or not arrive.

Who we are

Dear Delusion (the web app at app.deardelusion.app and this website) is provided by Mata Aesthetica Pty Ltd (ABN 27 671 657 659), Victoria, Australia ("we", "us"). By using Dear Delusion you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

What Dear Delusion is

Dear Delusion sends you humorous, sassy affirmations ("reads") in the style of a text from a friend. Some of them swear, and they joke about things like trauma, dating, work and bad customer service. Spicy mode includes the swearing, and you can switch it off in settings.

It's meant for people aged 16 and over.

It's comedy, not advice

The reads are for entertainment. They aren't medical, psychological, financial, legal or relationship advice, and they're no substitute for a professional. If you're struggling, please talk to someone you trust or a health professional. In Australia you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636, any time. In an emergency, call 000.

Using it

  • Dear Delusion is free to use at the moment. There are no accounts and nothing to buy yet.
  • If we add paid features or app-store versions later, we'll explain what's included and what it costs before you pay, and any extra terms will apply to those.
  • Please don't misuse the service, for example by trying to break it, overload it, get into parts you shouldn't, or bulk-copy its content.

Notifications

Notifications are optional. They depend on your device, your browser and its push service, so we can't promise every one will arrive or arrive on time. We may also pause, change or limit notifications, for example while we maintain the service. You can switch them off any time in the app's settings.

Our content, and sharing it

The reads, the name Dear Delusion, the design and the app belong to us or the people we license them from. You're welcome to share individual reads, including with the app's share cards, for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't republish the collection, sell it, put it on products, or use it to train or build another product without our written permission.

Changes and availability

We're still building Dear Delusion, so features, reads and these terms may change. We may update, suspend or stop the service at any time. If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top, and continuing to use Dear Delusion means you accept the new version.

Our responsibility

We provide Dear Delusion "as is". To the extent the law allows, we don't give any guarantees beyond those you have under the Australian Consumer Law, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that can't be excluded.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what we store and why. Short version: not much.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you and we submit to the courts of Victoria.
